Best beach for a day trip?
We've booked 14 days at OKW for August next year. (Only 327 days to go! ) but we are thinking about hiring a car and escaping to the beach for a day or two.
What beaches would you suggest for the clan McFluff? We'd love to do some pier fishing and swimming, ice cream and restaurants etc. |

Clearwater beach is about a 2 hour drive from Orlando, and we love it. It's busy but with a good atmosphere, plenty of places to eat and drink and some good activities: jet ski's, parasailing, dolphin tours etc.
Edit: and you can fish off Pier 60. Edited at 12:08 AM. |

Clearwater beach is excellent, great beach and plenty of places to eat, a bit further down the coast you have St. Pete / North Redington and you have pier fishing here.
On the opposite coast and a much shorter and easier journey with less traffic is cocoa beach. Great area here too with plenty of amenities. |

We went to Clearwater for the day and stayed for the beautiful sunset. It was absolutely gorgeous.

If it's a stunning beach and good pier fishing' then it's got to be Fort Desoto.
Two piers to choose from with no fishing licence required. Plenty of fish on the most basic of tackle. Great beach for shelling, good walks and very few people. There are plenty of vids on YouTube to 'wet your whistle' |

Nearest beach and our favourite is Cocoa Beach. One hour drive from Orlando. On Cocoa Beach pier you can hire fishing equipment and eat at any of the 4 restaurants on the pier itself. The Rikki Tiki Tavern at the end of the pier serves amazing cocktails and snacks.
