Grand Floridian Cafe
Grand Floridian Café (GF)
After another busy morning at the Magic Kingdom, we were ready for a little light lunch at another of our favourite venues, the Grand Floridian Café. It’s such a relaxing space in which to dine, and not that expensive, considering the location. The tables are well spaced, and the floor to ceiling windows flood the room with light. Soft pastel colours are all around, and there is always a fresh flower on the table. A nice pink rose today! I had a glass of Fess Parker chardonnay, and although it wasn’t listed on the lunch menu, an undeterred Paul asked for, and received his favourite Markham merlot. Paul had their version of a Veggie burger, which is quite different to any I’ve seen elsewhere on property. It’s made from bulgur wheat and chick peas, and it’s quite garlicky. The Tzatziki dressing has a tofu base and the sauce is made with sun-dried tomatoes and black olives. This is the second time he’s had the ‘vegetabley’ veggie burger here, and he enjoyed it as much this time as he did the last. I wanted something light, so I chose the Cobb salad. I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed it. OK – I’ll try! It had tomatoes, egg, bacon, turkey, avocado, blue cheese and chives, all chopped very fine, sitting in neat little rows, on top of shredded romaine lettuce. The French dressing was on the side, but I soon added that too! I love that, once mixed; you get a little flavour of everything. The crispy garlic croutons added a nice crunch too. I could eat this salad every day! Our server was Nelson, who was a bit of a Peter Andre look alike. (We didn’t hold that against him though! LOL) He was so sweet and friendly, and nothing was a bother for him. As it was so quiet in the restaurant, we spent some time chatting with him about working at Disney. He started off at Tony’s at MK. He told us that after six months, workers can request a change of workplace. They are then given a list of restaurants to choose from, which management think will suit their skills. I’m pleased Nelson chose to work at the Grand Floridian Café. He was a very pleasant and polite young man, and I hope we see him again whilst Disney dining. Oh, and we had Hazelnut Chocolate Mousse for dessert – it was just as scrummy as it was previously! On our way out, we stopped to see the enormous gingerbread house that was being crafted in the lobby. Amazing! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |

Great pics Sue. The cobb salad looks very like the one I had at the Dibb meet in Belfast. I couldnt do it justice and only ate 1/3 rd.
I have to give the cafe a go next time. Its on my list now. Margaret
