Calling things by the wrong name

Have you ever consistantly called something by the wrong name and when did you realise your mistake?

I'll start off ...

In 1976 we got our first colour tv. I spent the school summer holidays watching anything that was on and was drawn into watching international test cricket.

I gradually learnt enough about the rules to start to enjoy the game (I went to a girls' school where we played tennis or swam in the summer term so knew nothing of "boys" sports)

Anyway from 1976 until last year I've been calling the sight screens "side screens". I realised my mistake when watching a news article with subtitles on. Even then I thought the subtitles were wrong until I did a bit of googling!

I always thought Deep Heat was called D-Pete - absolutely no idea why, except maybe assuming it was similar to E-45, and then one day I saw the packaging.

My dear departed mum always called semolina, salmonella. Not many takers when she asked who wanted salmonella for afters. 😂

We were served by a sweet waitress in our Local Italian Restaurant recently and she kept calling Carbonara, ‘Carbanaba’. 😆

I used to think The Jam song - Town Called Malice, was Town Called Alice.
I wondered why she was so special, that she had a town named after her 😆

"A town like Alice" by Nevil Shute is an excellent novel though.
