We are going to get rainbow danios and some ghost shrimp. PAH sell a really nice tank that has lights in the bottom and you can change the colour of them.

We’ve visited the shop about 6 times and he adds things to the list each time.

He likes to plan 🤣

Temperate fish are cold water fish, there’s no heater required.

It’s tropical fish that need to keep warm and require a heater, but even that’s not expensive.

All you need with temperate aka cold water fish, is a filter.

You definitely don’t want marine fish, incredibly hard work and expensive.

Oh my lord! I totally read temperate as temperature and was thinking plug in heaters and lights! Oh my, I’ve got covid I’m not thinking straight! 🤣
Thank you! That makes far more sense.

I looked into keeping fish and to ensure their best welfare they can be difficult to keep. Personally I wouldn’t get fish for a child pet. I certainly wouldn’t get goldfish as they grow bigger than you think! Also the tanks many pet shops sell are inadequately sized. Fish need lots of room!

DD9 is on at me for a pet so we are also considering a fish to start with. Due to allergies and loving our holidays too much, dogs and cats are not top of the list of pets. She does really want an axolotl, though I think we'll settle for a goldfish 🤣
The oldest recorded goldfish lived to 45. Average life span for common goldfish is 20 years and more the fancy goldfish is 10/15 years.

We have a cat and a dog. We used to have 4 cats and I’ve had hamsters, rabbits, Guinea pigs and a chinchilla in the past. I’ve never lived in a home (aside from when I was a student) without pets so I’m not surprised my son wants a fish. He’s autistic and is very passionate about his interests. He raised caterpillars to butterflies last year and they were his world so I’m almost certain he’d love his fish. BUT I’m under no illusion it would be up to me and hubby to monitor it their welfare, and make sure they are happy! I do like fish myself which is kinda why I’m coming round to the idea so if he did get bored we’d still be happy with a little fin friends. I just clearly know very little and more research is needed on my part for sure!
