We've flown with Ryanair on a number of occasions now as a group of 12-14 adults, usually all couples are sat together, fairly near each other. However not last October, they literally spread all 14 of us across the plane. Not one couple were sat together, nor near anyone in our group. They know people will pay extra to sit together so by doing this they are pretty much guaranteed to get more money from their customers!

I’ve paid for our virgin flights and bagged dibbers row so worth it in my opinion. However our flight from bhx to Glasgow I’m taking my chances it’s an hour I said to our 7 year old would you mind not sitting with us on the plane? The response how cool it will be like I’m travelling on my own. Good luck whoever gets him as he doesn’t shut up!

We’ve got a first choice flight booked for May I’ll be prebooking our seats for that one!

I was on a Ryanair not long ago (business) there was me in isle, a guy in window, no one in the middle and his wife 20 seats ahead. Despite what they say they are clearly doing it on purpose in my view.

my lot have just boarded for Lapland flying with Norwegian , didn't pay for seats yet are seated together. That is the third time Norwegian have not split up our bookings and is one reason i would rebook with them . Not sure why Ryanair etc have to make it so difficult .

We reserved seats with virgin, before you paid and could select when the flight was released, and two out of the trhree times we travelled our family of four was separated after we checked in at the airport. We were given new boarding passes at the gate. Our kids would have been 8 and 10 and then 10 and 12. We couldn't see our children throughout the entire flight and there was no way they would move any of us. We kicked up sich a fuss as our children were alone they said they would offload us on the first occasion if we didn't pipe down.

We flew with Thomson last year to Croatia as a couple and I tried to book seats. We wanted an aisle and the middle. DH needed the aisle as he had hurt his knee and wanted to be able to stretch it out. Thomson said we could only book the window and an aisle, if we chose the aisle and the middle seat they wouldn't be able to sell the window seat as easily. We didn't pay and ended up with two aisle seats but around 4 rows away from each other.
Forgive me for being daft, but surely you would sit an adult with a child rather than being unable to see your kids? Or have I read this wrong?

It was answered previously by the poster, for the virgin flight it was 4 individual seats

I have checked in with ryan air, and we oh and I are seated apart, fair enough, we didnt pay but you then have the option to change seats, so I have just changed one of the seats as there is space next to me. I am a fan of Ryan Air, and always defend them, but this is a policy that Im not too happy about. We will still book with them, but will add the cost of booking seats now.

Last week we flew with Lufthansa Manchester to Munich and My Austria from Munich to Graz. On the return leg we flew My Austria from Graz to Vienna and then Vienna to Manchester.

As there were 2 flights each way, it would have cost us £32 each (£8 each flight) to reserve seats, so we decided not to bother. When we did online check we were automatically seated together (or 2 together and one across the aisle) on all 4 flights.
