Washington and ?

Hi folks

Looking for some planning help. Really want to visit Washington next year in summer. Will have 2 weeks so ideally fly in out of Washington, stay 3 or 4 nights there first Any suggestions for other places to stay. We usually like 6 or 7 nights more relaxing and quieter after doing a city. We will hire a car. Happy to stay odd night somewhere on way but dont like moving all the time.

A friend suggested Virginia and Virginia beach area.

Thanks

We have been to Virginia Beach and really enjoyed our few days there. Great beach for body boarding, cycling along the prom etc. It is a fun seaside resort and we enjoyed 3 days relaxing there. There is also Williamsburg not too far away where you can visit nearby Jamestown- the first settlement in the US as well as Busch Gardens.

We also visited Shenandoah National Park on that trip which was lovely for hikes, canoeing and sight seeing.

We are doing 3 nights in Washington then taking road trip taking in Shenandoah and part of the Blue Ridge Parkway then cutting across to the coast staying 3 nights in little house in Kitty Hawk then up to Williamsburg for a couple of nights. We have 2 nights in Shenandoah National Park in their accommodation and a few single nights in Front Royal, Roanoke and Roanoke Rapids our last night is near the airport so we can drive to nearby shopping malls before flight next day.
Doing all that in September

Williamsburg Virginia definitely. Beautiful place with history and lots of fun. No beach but an amazing waterpark. A quick trip round Amish country in Pennsylvania is a possibility from DC - was worried the kids would be a bit bored but they really loved seeing the Amish.

We teamed our Washington trip with Sandusky, Ohio, then onto the Florida Keys.
So anywhere you want, really

We had originally planned a trip of 3 nights DC then 4/5 nights Boston. However, some of these suggestions look really interesting so might have to extend my trip by a week

New England should also be nice that time of year, tour Maine and the area or new York state then fly home from Boston

My working route was Washington, Colonial Williamsburg, Outer Banks N.C. and a lodge in Gatlinburg Tennessee. Not sure if that’s a bit far in 2 weeks.
