This also impacts their ability to make private pension provision. What people should do and what they can do are not always the same thing.
but that will be the problem of a different government, so they don't care.

No government will ever care. There seems to be a fallacy that politicians care for people other than themselves. History has shown that they don't - they are some of the most selfish people in society and utterly self serving.
The only person looking out for you is yourself.

Very sad I know - but unfortunately the reality of life.

I am not sure I agree with this.

I do not believe every politician is totally and utterly self serving. Many have the reputation of being so. Several don't.

Actually to expand on this. It's the job of government to govern. Essentially it's the act of balance isn't it, between all the competing demands and seeking to match as many of them as you can with the limited amount of money in its place. In this instance it is impossible to think of the individual, you can only think in groups of pressures of demands and see how you can meet the needs of everyone in the most balanced way, whilst still protecting and supporting our most vulnerable and support those suffering from deprivation.

That's governance and it is a tricky art and they are rightly held to account for what they do.

Then there is politics. That's is a whole different ball game.

But I wholeheartedly agree the individual has to take responsibility for themselves and government must put arrangements in place to support those who cannot or who can with a bit of assistance. There is a middle group of those who will willfully not take responsibility for themselves and that is a harder nut to crack.

Clearly that isn’t true.

Otherwise we wouldn’t have things like the welfare system, the NHS, safety regulations, and many other things. Governments do put lots of things into place to care for the people (how well they work is another matter).

Some individual politicians might not care for other people but that’s not true of governments. The government (whichever one) is/was trying to do what it thinks is best for the people. What is best for the people is not the same as what you think is best for you and the people around you.

That’s not to say governments are perfect. They are far from that. But they don’t exist purely to serve themselves.

This is a whole new thread. I think we will just have to agree to differ .

Well, the response from the DWP is quite strong...

In a statement, a spokesperson said: "We will not be raising the State Pension age to 75. Fact."

"This is not government policy and we have no plans to do."

This sentiment was reiterated by current Work and Pensions Secretary, Amber Rudd, who said she would "rule it out" (during a visit to Plymouth this week).

So... with plans already in place for 68... how about 72?, 70?

And they have never changed their minds or policies before.
That statement (like any) is valid until they change their minds and it suits them.

fully expecting 70 to be added to the roll out... and people will be expected to be grateful that it is not 75.
