my Dad gave me away on our wedding day ,

we also had the problems of inlaws not caring when we told them we had got engaged 3 years ago and told them we were not getting married in England they were non too happy , like other inlaws they have the money but came up with so many c***** excuses why they couldnt come , so in the end hubby had just his brother at his side .

My dad will be walking me down the aisle, we were initially just going to run off and get married with just us two, but I really want my dad to see his only daughter get married.

My 8 year old cousin will be giving me away, I don't see my dad as he left before I was born! My mam and stepfather aren't coming because we OH parents couldn't afford to come so it's not fair if mine did x

We had a similar problem. my mum and dad and OH's dad and stepmum could afford to go, but OH's mum and step dad couldn't. We told everyone 3years in advance so there would be plenty of time to save. Initially everyone said yes we will come. A year down the line his mum and stepdad said they couldn't afford it, 18months away they have now started putting away £350 a month so fingers crossed. I think because we have given everyone so much notice, if they can't come then i'm not telling someone who can afford to go that they can't. I understand what you mean though, slightly different for you as your OH wouldn't have any family there but you would

My brother is giving me away as my Dad passed away 21 years ago - I'm going to have a small photograph of Dad pinned to the stem my boquet though, so he does get to walk down the aisle with me on some level!

I shall be walking myself down the aisle, we told everyone three years ago that we were getting married in Florida but slowly almost every 1 has dropped out.
My parents then started to come up with excuses as to y they could not come,it could not of been due to money as my dad offered me quite a bit towards a wedding in this country.
But a wedding in this country is not what we want, its a shame because now its a subject we dont talk about, whenever i bring up the subject of Florida or the wedding the subject very quickly gets changed.

Leanne I think that is quite sad, I didn't realise that your parents were like this.

I actually think it's a wonderful idea for your son to give you away.

My dad died before I got married so my oldest brother gave me away and both he and I were happy doing this.

When we first said we would be getting married abroad when the time came, almost everyone (except my family and our closest friends) tried to talk us out of it. Told us what an awful idea it would be. How would people get there? Why on earth would be want to do that? etc etc

But it is what we have always wanted and it is our wedding, our marriage and our money so we are going to do it exactly how we want to! Sod everyone else lol
