Mount Dora

Hi, I was reading on Attraction Tickets about a town not far from Disney called Mount Dora, and wondered if anyone had ever been / would recommend it?

We go late October into November and Iím sure thereís a national Holiday round then , and wondered if it might be worth going on that day for mid afternoon and staying for an evening meal,

Hope someoneís been and can let me know thoughts - many thanks

We went about 15 years ago. There's not a lot there as such but I remember there being some nice independent shops and it was a nice change away from the parks. I think we ate there but I can't remember where!

We had been before many years ago but went back in January this year

We had a lovely afternoon ( it isnít somewhere that I think you would stay all day)

Lovely independent shops and eateries. It does get busy though itís a great break away from the parks

This is just my personal opinion as others might like it but we were there a couple of weeks ago for the first time and it wasnít for us, tbh I wouldnít go back, thought it was a bit Ďtrippyí. Lots of gift shops all selling very similar things, if you want a sign with a slogan on it, itís definitely the place to go.

We much prefer Winter Garden and Winter Park which are both closer to where we stay (Disney). If youíve not already been, there are lots of nice places to eat & shop at Winter Park, the Scenic boat tour is good and itís also really nice to walk around the grounds of Rollins College and the adjoining lake.

We visited at Christmas and spent a morning strolling around, looking in the shops and grabbing a coffee and pastries. You can also do a boat tour from there but we had just missed one.

It's a cute little town you can spend a few hours wandering around. We try to visit a new town each trip if we can.

We enjoyed it. You can walk on the boardwalk near the lake. We saw alligators, snakes and lots of birds. We then had a wander around the town and had lunch. I also saw the signs for the boat ride but we havenít tried that.

We visited about 5 years ago. We had a trip to Eustis about 5 miles north of there to visit a particular Craft shop, and did Mount Dora on the way back. We found the whole area lovely for a drive and a mooch around the houses/area. Mount Dora itself is nice, we had a lovely quiet walk along the boardwalk, saw turtles and aligators. Had a wander round the shops (not really our type of thing) but nice to spend an hour, then stopped in a cafe for a coffee and cake. Probably wouldn't visit on its own but if all you want is some time away from the parks its a nice half day out and about.

Love Mount Dora. We first went in September 2019 when a hurricane was due but had swerved at the very last minute but most Americans had cancelled holidays so Florida was really quiet. We went on a lovely boat tour through the lakes and canals and as we were the only ones on the boat it was like a private tour and the captain took us down little side canals where we saw some massive gators. Last year we took a catboat tour down the same way. Really good fun where your on your own little catamaran for two and went 30 miles an hour over the lake following an instructors boat then slowly down the canal. Lovely little shops and great wee cafes. Nice drive too.

We did the Catboat too and absolutely loved it - especially the race across the lake at the end! The canal part of it is beautiful.

We also did a seaplane trip from the lake and we in the air far longer than we should have been. A wonderful experience and wasn't a bank breaker by any means. See first Florida road trip report below.
