We're all going on a Poly-holiday - October 2019: Day 1: Fried food and fireworks
Day 1: Fried food and fireworks
Sunday 13 October 2019 Index Magic Kingdom Day - EMH, Crystal Palace, rides, lunch and swimming at the Oasis Pool back at the resort, Happily Ever After and late night snacks in bed We woke up bright and early at 3:30am local time We had our outfits out ready and had anticipated our body clocks waking us up early so we were ready to make the most of our close proximinity to MK and beat the crowds. Today we were wearing our matching "Meet me at the Peoplemover" t shirts from the mainstreet press that we had ordered before we arrived. We also were wearing our gorgeous buzz and alien knot bands from magic and main street ears on Instagram. And our fun badges from parkboundbuttons.com With moving house I had run out of time to print our housekeeping envelopes this year but I think they girls' drawings made a really lovely substitute. Magicbands assemble! As we were having breakfast in the park we were able to just get up quickly and chuck our clothes on and jump on the monorail. It was still dark when we left Stopping for a couple of pictures around the resort first! The bag check / scanner line at the Poly was so efficient and such a great feature as there was never a queue and it meant we could go straight to the magic band scanners when we got to MK The sunrise on the monorail was really stunning. It was extra magic hours and we made it there just after they opened to no queues whatsoever. The sun hadn't fully come up yet so it was so strange walking up main street as it felt like night time but the day hadn't even started yet! We stopped for a few photos and of cours for some purple wall pictures. We headed over to Tomorrowland first, I actually really like the new sign. It's really sleek and modern looking in a futuristic way, it's definitely more fitting with what futuristic technology looks like as opposed to the 80s idea of what futuristic would look like if you know what I mean (like the old sign / back to the future style etc...) Our reservation wasn't until 9:15am so we had plenty of time to fit in some rides first. Our first choice was Astro Orbiter. There was no queue and the lift was just filling up with some other guests so we jumped in and joined them. Andy and I sat together and Izzy and Immy did... I'm not doing that again it was such a squeeze Next up was Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin - literally a walk on. It was really good fun - although scores weren't as impressive as in previous years... Next, we chose the People Mover. it would be rude not to in these tees, right! The views over the park with the sunrise were just stunning and we felt so so happy and lucky to be there. Such a feel good ride Tron construction When we got off we noticed the Tomorrowland Speedway had a 5 minute wait and decided to go for that one too. The girls asked if they could steer and do the pedals this time but then decided against the pedals at the last minute. Edited at 11:17 AM. |

After a spin round the track we were really hungry and there and despite having a breakfast reservtion we decided to grab a little something to keep us going, a pre-breakfast if you will! (Don't @ me)
We had a Cheshire cat tail and a Wonderland Slushy (frozen Minute Maid Raspberry Lemonade and frozen Fanta Grape, served with a hard strawberry candy straw.) The Cheshire cat tail was as good as we remember before, warm, flaky pastry with dark chocolate chunks (slightly melted) with lovely sweet icing on top. The Wonderland Slushy was really refreshing and sweet and I really liked the taste of the candy straw Feeling the buzz from the sugar, we were now ready for a spin on the teacups As usual Andy span us round super fast We were chatting about how much we had managed to fit in to a small amount of time and how our 2:10pm fast pass for Space Mountain didn't really fit anymore as we would be hanging around for ages for it and we quite fancied popping back for a dip in the pool instead. Andy popped on the MDE app and managed to snag a 8:50-9:50am fast pass for it instead, which was straight away. The queue wasn't horrendous anyway but it may have saved us a few minutes at least After a brilliant ride, we spent quite a while in the Space Mountain gift shop, Andy wanted a new phone case and found THE perfect one Isn't it lovely! We also debated for ages about getting one of these plaques, they were really nicely made and not a bad price for such a special and customisable keepsake. We talked about where we would put it in our new house and thought it may look nice in the garden as the colour didn't really fit in with our planned decor inside but then we read that it was for indoor use only we decided against it. Izzy eyeing up all the stitch merch. Finally, after a jam packed morning it was 9:15am and time for our reservation at Crystal Palace Water art on the way to our breakfast reservation We checked in at the check-in desk. There were a lot of other families waiting and it took around 15 minutes for our name to be called, we passed the time chilling on the benches under the verandah. We were seated to the right of the restaurant as you walk in for the first time and it was really lovely. This was our first meal on the new style dining plan that included alcoholic beverages so we had every intention of making use of this perk, whatever the meal and I think Disney have catered for this really well as mimosas (and sometimes other "breakfast cocktails") were available pretty much in every TS location. We ordered two fresh mimosas and 2 coffees and the girls wanted water. The mimosas were probably the best of the holiday, really fresh and fizzy and a good balance of sparkling wine to OJ. We went up to the buffet and had a selection of yummy food including eggs, breakfast pizza, bacon, sausages. a maple danish, pain aux chocolat , the famous breakfast lasagne, breakfast potatoes, biscuits and gravy, mini bagel with salmon and cream cheese, strawberries, ice cream and sprinkles. My plate Pooh Bear T-I-double-Guh-Errrr Piglet Eeyore After our food had gone down we walked to our second fast pass, Splash Mountain. The stand by was 125 minutes and our fast pass took about 20, so it was a pretty good use of one that day. After Splash, we managed to move our Big Thunder Fastpass so we could go straight after Splash which worked out perfectly. We had crammed in so much we were sooo ready for some food and a lovely relaxing time back at our resort. We managed to squeeze in a couple of sneaky Mickey bars on the way back On our way back down main street we decided to look in the shops. The (in)famous Heidi Klum ears! Some glassmaking Rice krispie treats being made before our eyes Edited at 10:05 AM. |

We walked to the front of the park and to the resort monorail queue. The wait wasn't long and we were soon back at our resort and back in our room. Not before a quick detour to Bou-tiki gift shop to try on some dresses - the girls loved them but the price tag was just a little too high for us to buy them just yet
We fancied something casual for lunch so changed into our swimwear and headed down to the Oasis Pool (a quiet pool). It wasn't busy at all and the bar and grill was open. This was a QS location but they offered table ordering, our server was super nice and so helpful. She asked if were on the dining plan and advised that because Izzy was an "adult" and the girls were sharing an adult meal, we can have our included cocktails and also share the one that she is entitled to but said we don't have to order that one at the same time There was a refillable drink station there too so the girls' drink was sorted too It was such a beautiful sunny day and a lovely relaxing atmosphere. Once the girls chose their food they ran off for a dip in the pool. All of the tables had a good view of the pool, which was brilliant. There were also little cabanas you could hire but I didn't see anyone in them the entire two weeks we were there. Andy ordered a "Big" Island Iced Tea, a Hawaiian take on the long island iced tea. I had a lime dole whip margarita. Holy cow the drinks were great! Especially mine! A total bargain for a QS credit, too! I had the Angus cheeseburger and fries, the girls shared an Angus cheeseburger and fries too. Andy had a teryaki burger and fries. Our second drink we chose a sunshine margarita to share The food was good but not the best burger we had at Disney, slightly greasier than I would have liked. That being said, the value for money for 3 QS credits (£84) was fabulous and the atmosphere and service was brill. After lunch, the girls swam a little more and we all had a dip in the hot tub. Because of all of the time of year we went and all of the Halloween Party Nights, there weren't many nights that Happily Ever After was actually on that worked for us. One of the only nights that worked was our first full day, so that was our plan for our first evening After a bit of chilling in our room and some TV and relaxation, we all freshened up and got ready for an evening in the park. We were still stuffed from our big lunch so decided to just grab some food on the way home after the fireworks. View from our room We wanted a really good view of the fireworks and didn't mind waiting, so we sat down near the hub about an hour before the fireworks started and camped out with the other HEA fans. The time went quickly, we played some games and just people watched and soaked in the atmosphere and by 8:45 they had us all standing for health and safety reasons ready for the show to start. As soon as the music started my body was covered in shivers and the hairs on my arms were standing on end. It's such an emotional, magical show with wonderful music. We just felt so incredibly grateful and thankful to be there. THE best show in WDW right now. After the show we hung back for a while to let the initial crowds dissipate then took some pictures and made our way back to the monorail (via the gift shops, of course) We also treated the girls to a light up balloon each. We had been so used to the freedom of not bringing cash and using our magic bands to pay for everything we nearly became unstuck when we went to pay for the balloons to find out she didn't have a magic band reader and we'd forgotten our cards, too! Luckily, she said "Apple pay?" and we had that on our phones and managed to pay for our already tied and weighted balloons and stop the embarrassment of having to hand them back and disappoint two little girlies! We made it back to the resort monorail and joined the queue. It was a pretty big queue (halfway down the slope) but it moved quickly as the monorails were so frequent and fitted so many people on at once it was only one monorail we actually had to wait for before we got on. We decided to give the mobile ordering a try at Capt. Cook's for our late night dinner and ordered on the monorail to save time. For some reason Capt/ Cook's hadn't quite mastered mobile ordering yet and quite often in our stay we found it to be slower than ordering in the regular line (other restaurants seemed to have the hang of it!) After a long wait and a slight loss of faith in the mobile ordering system we eventually got our food and dragged ourselves back to our room to eat it all up! We decided on the pulled pork nachos with pineapple salsa and a pepperoni flatbread for the girls to share (pizzas two nights in a row... don't judge, we're on holiday! ) I mean they look kinda gross with about 2 litres of queso on them but they tasted INCRED! 2 QS meals meant we could have 2 adult beverages too so these beers called our names from the fridge... Moana cupcake as a snack credit for dessert to share! We chilled out in the room and had our late night naughty food then went off to sleep. A fabulous first day! Edited at 10:20 AM. |
