Grand Canyon Help
I am after advice on Grand Canyon flights but want to drive to the canyon from Vegas and then take a helicopter and possibly boat trip when we arrive at the canyon. I can only seem to find trips that take you from Vegas and nothing from the rim.
I would also be grateful for any advice for where to stay for one night that is close to the canyon. |

I've not used them but THIS company fly from both LV and Tusayan airport (Tusayan is the last town outside the national park).
If you put 'helicopter flights, Tusayan' into google there may be other options too. HTH!

Are you planning to visit the South Rim?
Papillon do helicopter tours from Tusayan. There are many hotels in Tusayan, but you can also stay closer to the rim in the park itself. We stayed in Maswik Lodge in 2003. The rooms are basic. There was no aircon. But it was only a two minute walk to the rim and the magnificent views. |

we drove to Grand Canyon from Vegas last october-its a 5-6 hour trip to the south rim
we stayed at the Maswik lodge which is inside the GC national park and only a few minutes walk from the rim-that way you get to experience all the different lighting effects of the canyon, early morning thro to sunset. we took a helicopter flight with Maverick helicopters-awesome- we did the Canyon Spirit one around 50 mins. The airport was about 20 mins from Maswik Lodge. maverickhelicopter/ca...d-canyon-tours

What did you think of the Maswik Lodge?
We've booked it for a Saturday night in September next year!

The problem that you may be finding is that the rules for operating within national park are different from other areas of the canyon
If you fly from Vegas then you go to one of the reservations that are outside the national park so you can do boat trips and jeep tours into the floor of the canyon and you can fly or land below the rim of the canyon If you go to the south rim it is within the national park and you can book a flight on a helicopter from Grand Canyon airport, but can’t over fly bright angel lodge hermits rest or any of the main tourist areas of the south rim, you also cant drop below the canyon rim or land on the floor of the canyon floor You will find some walking tours or mule tours that will take you below the rim but access is very limited and strictly enforced, this may be why you are struggling to find your boat trip |

The Maswik lodge is a basic motel-style accomodation. It was clean and absolutely acceptable for one night. They have a huge cafeteria where you can get hamburgers, but also cereal and fresh fruit for breakfast. We were there in September. We had great weather, but it wasn't too hot. So we never missed the aircon. I read somewhere that they do have rooms with aircon, so maybe the had them installed in the passed years. Overall, the Maswik Lodge is perfectly acceptable for a short stay at the canyon. |

Thanks Hollandia! We've booked through Virgin and apparently our rooms are in Maswik North and have air conditioning! Can't wait now!
