Wait till you see the pier at Santa Monica. Its huge.
When we went there last year, part of the beach at the side of the pier was being used as a memorial for soldiers lost in the Middle East conflict. Thousands of little crosses and little things left by families...very moving to see up close.

Personally, having done the driving around LA ,I would be inclined to book a different hotel in Anaheim for your visit to Disneyland. Santa Monica to Anaheim can be a hard drive especially during the week days when you get a permanant rush hour. Just think it would be better if you were situated nearby.

Another tip if I may. Should you decide to visit San Diego, especially if its weekend...set off early. It seems that everyman and his dog go to the beach in SoCal on a weekend.
