Vegas to Grand Canyon

We will be going to Vegas in April and plan to drive to the Grand Canyon and stay overnight. We are not bothered about the distance as we have just done the Pacific Highway from SF to LA , but were wondering if anybody could suggest places to stop to break up the journey - other than the Hoover dam. Are there any ghost towns or anything else that might be of interest to a family with 2 teenagers.

Also, any advice on reasonably priced car hire companies.

We drove out from Vegas to Lake Powell (about 3 hours drive) Lake Powell was outstanding and well worth visiting, Glen Canyon Dam is also by Lake Powell and we thought it was a better dam than Hoover.

We then drove the next day from Lake Powell to Grand Canyon which was just under 3 hours drive and a pretty nice drive aswell, along the way we stopped at Cameron Trading Post and there are loads of the Indian reservations along that route and loads of stalls selling bits on the side of the road along the way and some great views.

Can second Page near Lake Powell and by Glen Valley Dam as a beautiful place to stop. We have stayed there twice, for a couple of days each time.
