lake powell houseboat

hi has any one rented one of these(quite expesive) but apparently you can sail yourself up to the grand canyon and back on it seem like such a relaxing way to do gc and generally have a few days chilling and swimming in the lake or fishing or just sunbathing any info from any one who has tried this would be most welcome thanks

Might be wrong here, but wasn't Lake Powell created by 'damming' Glen Canyon - not Grand Canyon.

I think this is what Stephen Fry did 'in America'. If this is the thing you are thinking about it did look fabulous. I think Mr Fry said Glen Canyon would be more spectacular than the Grand Canyon if it had been left as nature intended. Still looked like a beautiful experience

correct... this dam imho is far better than hoover dam for viewing as there is a road bridge near that goes across the river and you get spectacular view of dam. not sure whether they still do tours of dam !

make sure you take tour boat ride to rainbow bridge, think they do all day or half day tours from Wahweap (spelling).

We rented a speedboat for the day on Lake Powell a couple of years ago and there were a lot of house boats there travelling up the lake. Fantastic day out, I can imagine that a week on a house boat would be the ultimate luxury in the middle of nowhere.
