Can you take a telephone wire off your house?
We don't need one, and we're having the house painted next week. Can we remove it ourselves?
Also a street sign, we have a street sign screwed into the front of our house with the name of an adjacent street on, it's rusty and ugly.

I’m not sure of the legality of it. Im sure its out there somewhere though.
Such a pity your Winter storms ripped that cable off and goodness knows where the sign ended up.

No you cant (legally). It is the property of Openreach.
If you want it removed, you need to contact them directly. Jobs like this are some of the few where you can contact OR directly. |

We fell foul of this- the telegraph pole outside our house was redone years ago and I told them not to reconnect us as we weren’t with BT. Caused us issues when we wanted to switch phone companies later as we would have to pay for re-connection.

Ring the council on the street name plate - say it’s hanging off and rusty and you’re scared it will fall off and hurt someone...

Regarding the street sign there is normally a contract between the property owner and council highway maintenance Department when they are originally installed so definitely need to speak to the authority about it. Unless the original agreement, which is highLG unlikely, states the property owner is responsible for keeping it maintained then it is the authorities responsibility to maintain it.
