Secondary school finish time.
My youngest daughter has recently failed her 11+, the 2 catchment secondary schools have 2 short days finishing at 12.30. My elder 2 both passed and their schools had regular school days which meant by the time they travelled home they were not alone too long. We work full time and I’m currently wondering how these short days will work for our family, I’m actually worried about the amount of unsupervised time she will have as she will be 11 years old, she is sensible and self sufficient but I still cannot get my head around it! Does anyone have any experience of this? Reassurance or anything? Thanks in advance.

My son's school has just changed its school hours so they finish at 1-30 on a Friday (stay longer on the other four days ) , they have the option of staying at school to do study etc on the Friday . Maybe it would be the same for your school .

Ah I see I wondered if this would be the case with clubs etc. I’m just not sure that she will take them up on that option!

Finishing at 12.30 twice a week seems unusual. Our school is 3.20 every day except Tuesday when it is 2.20. Out of interest where is the other time made up ?

No , my son wouldn't either ! I think my son's school offered the option probably for the reason you are concerned about , plus the canteen is open too should anyone wish to still have dinner at school. My son certainly loves the early finish !

They do 2 longer days however it does not appear to add up like the traditional schools the other 2 attended! They are academy schools and I think they have some control over how the days are set. The other 2 attended grammar schools which had old school style timings- which I think I prefer!

No that's to early for Y7!
Looks like the school is trying to save money on staff. Steer clear would be my advice. |
