I know everyone has said thongs aren't appropriate for 13yrs but many dancers/gymnast etc wear then at that age. DD certainly did as lines were best avoided in costumes/leotards etc, sometimes there is a place for nude coloured thongs.

Is it just that DD and MIL got a bit carried away together, or was DD pressured into buying things she wasn't comfortable with?

To be honest, it is annoying but not the end of the world.

Jeez...I'd be absolutely seething too. Why would a nana be pushing lace and thongs on her 13yr old DGD? Is she trying to look cool? MIL would be getting a stern text from me or DH if this happened here.

Back in the day...my Mum was livid my Nan bought me some scholl clogs and paid for my ears piercing. She was a rebel but I loved her to bits and still miss her.

I’ve no doubt huffed her but I feel better speaking to her about this.
She has a daughter btw, age 41, divorced and living on her own.
Sounds like a resolution then. Move on, she's is not a bad grandparent by the sounds of it so not worth causing a fuss.

She won't be here forever xx

Agree with above, what on earth was she thinking what has your dd said about it

At first I thought she was out of order but this was not your DD's first bra etc. It sounds as if they have quite a close relationship and your MIL regularly helps you out. Is this a one off or does she regularly overstep? If it is a one off then I think you should not over-react even though the underwear was not suitable.

I am a MIL who looks after my grandchildren three full days a week (they are still young) - we have had no problems yet and I always remember I am not the parent (nor do I want to be) but I am sure I will make a mistake at some point and I would be really offended if my DIL went over the top with me though. I know exactly what it is like to have a nightmare MIL - maybe you are luckier than you think.

I would have dropped it round to hers, saying "you seemed to have left your new underwear in with Grand-daughters shopping". Passive aggressive 😁

I know, I think on reflection she’s trying to be on trend, more of a friend than a Nanna. But forgetting that she’s only 13. It’s like she wa shopping with her own daughter.
