Carolinas and Virginia
Thinking about flying in to Washington and then making our way down to Charleston for two weeks ish. Only firm plans are to stay at Hilton Head Island. Has anyone done this trip and have a trip report or have suggestions. Thanks

Not done that route, but did a trip where we spent 7 nights in Asheville followed by 7 nights on Hilton head island. HHI is lovely and we rented a small cabin and hired bikes to get around. We got a boat from there to savannah for the day which was also very nice.

Yes! Do it, it was one of the best holidays we have had.
We flew in to Washington, and then went to Gettysburg, Williamsburg, had a cabin in Shenandoah for a few days and also went to see the wild ponies on Chincoteague. Very varied and lots of memories made.

In May we flew to NY, have a few days there, then flew to Charleston, picked up a car, and spent four nights there, exploring the area, we’d been before many years ago, then we drove down to Hilton Head for seven nights. It’s beautiful, almost stole my heart away from the Florida Gulf Coast! It’s pretty, low rise, everything is below tree level, great restaurants, cycle paths, wildlife, and golf.

That’s great, making me feel like we have made a good choice. Couple of questions, where did you base yourself in Hilton Head Island. Also did anyone visit the Smokey Mountains.

We have also been to the SM but did a week in the area on a separate trip. Had a gorgeous cabin and totally chilled out.

We've been to HHI a couple of times - really lovely place. We stayed in the Marriott Vacation Club. Also did a day trip to Savannah which was well worth it, and a Dolphin spotting boat tour

I’ve been to Virginia, Blue Ridge Mountains, and Rehobeth on the same trip. I’ve also been to Charleston, Savannah and Hilton Head, but only when flying to Atlanta (also done Smokies on that trip).
Rehobeth is worth a visit, tax free too, also you can get a ferry on a half day trip and go over to Cape May. Great holiday there. Hilton Head is one of my favourite places to visit. I am looking forward to going back and staying in DVC. In HHI we stayed in Palmetto Dunes where we rented a house, very nice. , If you are not DVC though, you could rent points off David’s or similar, the DVC there is really lovely.id stay in the DVC any time from what I saw of it (loads of vids also on YouTube) and it has its own beach club in Palmetto with a pool. If I was driving from Washington I’d probably stay at Rehobeth a few nights. You will find it a struggle to also take in the Smokies in a few weeks if you are going from Washington, if you want the Smokies and the other places in a few weeks, fly to Atlanta. Definitely one of my favourite holidays - Atlanta- Smokies- Savannah or Charleston- Hilton Head ( also did South Myrtle, but very busy place, not my favourite place Myrtle),

Think we are going to stick to South Carolina mainly and the Smokey M. Has anyone been to Kiawah Island?

We have been to Kiawah Island. It’s beautiful we loved it. We stayed in one of their apt’s for 3 nights on a golf break.
Have also been to pinehurst in May there and the HHI. Just stunning. Loved them all. Charleston and savannah are great for a visit as well though I must admit to liking Charleston more. |
