Mobile Where to stay in San Diego?

Looking at staying in San Diego for 4 nights in August. We are 2 adults and 2 teenagers. Budget is about £250 per night. Any recommendations? Any areas to avoid?

Thanks in advance

We stayed at Best Western Plus Island Palms Resort. Would happily recommend. Great hotel and walking distance to restaurants. Really liked the location and our children/teenagers enjoyed both the pools. There are photos in our trip report if that helps.

Have a great time.

Haven’t stayed there yet, but will be there in a few weeks’ time! I’ve only heard good things about it, and a friend who stayed on shelter island said it’s an excellent location. San Diego is the place on our road trip which I’m looking forward to the most

We stayed at the Marriott Marquis with a bay view room. It was amazing. It has a beautiful pool area and is only 5 minutes walk along the bay front to Seaport Village (and The Cheesecake Factory!). Easy walking distance to Gaslamp district on an evening and the USS Midway. The ferry to Coronado is only a couple of minutes walk away too. It’s a really lovely hotel in a fantastic location.

All the hotels mentioned are great places, I have stayed at all of them- in fact, I will be staying at Humphrey’s Half Moon Inn in about two weeks taking some friends who will be visiting from the UK. Shelter Island is a lovely location and one of my favorite spots in town. The Marriott Marquis is a beautiful hotel and ideal location downtown, as has been mentioned already. The Marriott Gaslamp Quarter hotel, the Embassy Suites San Diego Bay hotel and the Hilton Bayside are also nice hotels downtown. Mission Valley is an area about 15 minutes from downtown that has quite a few hotels and motels that line a major highway that runs through the middle of the valley. Mission Valley isn’t scenic like Shelter Island or downtown- it’s filled mostly with hotels, business buildings, the busy highway and a couple of large shopping malls, but you can find some reasonable hotel prices there and it’s a very central location to everything. You can do a search on Mission Valley San Diego hotels to see a list- there are a lot in the area, it’s a very hotel-centric location. Be sure to read descriptions and reviews carefully as some of them are older, junky motels.

Places to avoid staying in San Diego...I’d say anywhere like Chula Vista, Imperial Beach, National City, Logan Heights and some areas of Ocean Beach.

We stayed in the Manchester Grand Hyatt, right next to Seaport village. It was well situated for walking everywhere and a Cheesecake Factory just outside the door 😉
