Help! I can see mortar lines through the plaster on my wall

Erm, I’ve just been having a clear around and noticed this on our bedroom wall. It’s an internal wall and now I’m a bit worried! It doesn’t feel wet. OH has just gone up in the loft to investigate and there’s no sign of any damp or water and there are no pipes in that location. Not sure if this picture helps but does anyone have any thoughts?

Don't worry it's not damp or a leak.

It's very common and is caused by different temperature zones.

If you Google 'plaster shadowing internal walls' you will find loads of posts on this.

Basically it's tiny bits of dust particles that have built up over time in areas that have different absorbency caused by multiple different air temperatures. In essence the blocks are warmer than the compo joints between them hence the dust is attracted to the colder parts.

Nothing you can do apart from blowing another coat of paint on.

Thank you!
I completely freaked out! I had visions of needing to have the room replastered and we’ve just had built in wardrobes so it would have been a total pain! Painting was the next job so that’s no problem! Phew

If people look hard enough you can see it a lot on smooth external white/cream painted rendering that has been done over blockwork. Not if it's over brickwork though as that keeps the same temp as the compo joints.

Even a plasticiser bonding solution won't stop it.
