That's a long time!

I can just about understand one month for any unexpected bills etc-but 2 months definitely seems excessive.

Surely a security deposit is money they're supposed to hold in a separate account (or simply not cash the cheque) so they can return it when you've returned hime? What have any bills they might have got to do with you and your deposit - unless you were the ones who caused any damage which might incur a bill!

This is another reason why I like the condo we stay in - not only is it only £250 a week (and the owner lives not far from us in Kent) but they don't ask for a security deposit, either.

That's an incredible price, and very trusting of the owner.
You've obviously got a good relationship.

never really fancied a condo,done townhouses/villas/hotel-
But could maybe do so in the future.

Soooo annoying for you, hope you get your deposit soon. I've never had to pay a security deposit when booking with my American owner who owns in Sunset Lakes and Emerald Island, even when we were new customers.

This is the sort of rare occurrence that can give private rentals a bad name.
There is always an element of trust involved when renting a holiday home - you are trusting the owners to rent you their house, and they are trusting you to treat it with respect. Mostly everything works out fine, and hopefully you will soon get your deposit back.

You are so right.

And I'm a total worryguts to start with.
without any justifiable reason to feel that way

It certainly hasn't put us off renting a villa in the future.
It's like anything,whether it's an issue regarding a bank,shop etc.-
Every single situation is different.

In fact we have a villa booked for August 2014 and I'm thrilled with our choice-totally excited-would just like to move on now,and all be happily sorted.
