Booking package with TUI but flights with Virgin

It looks like the best price I am going to get for our proposed impromptu trip next Jan is a package with TUI.

The flights are out of LGW with Virgin.

Does anyone know if you book with TUI can you reserve your seats with Virgin or do you have to wait until check in?

I’m going to New York next year with TUI but flying with Virgin.
I just logged onto Virgin Atlantic with my booking ref that TUI gave me and reserved our seats free of charge.
