Is it possible to overplan?
Don't get me wrong I have learnt a lot from reading about Dibbers plans but I do wonder if it is possible to over plan a holiday?
I know the last time we went I had created a spreadsheet listing what we were going to do on which days and in the end it got ripped up and we went with whatever we felt like doing on the day. I'm not saying detailed planning is right or wrong...after all I guess it helps with the excitement of arranging a holiday! |

I remember seeing the following once on a picture and it rang so true with me
'overplanning kills the magic' and I think sometimes it can for sure. We do a bit of both have a plan and i love the research beforehand and obsessing on the The Dibb but also once we get there I don't get stressed if the plan goes out the window as sometimes the unexpected changes can be the most magical moments |

I don't think you can over plan as long as you don't over stick to the plan

I think a healthy balance of planning and winging it is best. It's our first time staying on site this holiday with DDP so I've figured out when I want all my ADRs and then we can use the QS and snack credits as an when we feel like it. It's hard as we are going in September and there are lots of things we want to do that are only available on certain nights so you have to plans those eg HHN, MNSSHP and the F&W Festival. If the plan goes out the window then I won't get stressed. It's all part of the fun.

I plan in as much as I try and find out as much as I can about everything before I go then use that info to make informed decisions about what I do when I'm out there. We plan three or four things that are set over the course of the holiday... things like baseball or a particular meal ADR and then the rest we leave pretty fluid. Think the key is being able to accept that plans change as far as I can tell. Mind you others take great enjoyment in knowing exactly what they're doing and see to stick really well to their plans... I guess its just horses for courses!

I plan and plan and plan... but we go with the flow a bit when we are there - the advance planning just smooths the way...
everybody sees it as a nice relaxing trip, we do everything everyone wants to do and it looks seamless and easy - because I've been the little duck seeming to swim serenely and paddling away like heck underneath. I do have a nice big glass of wine of an evening! |

I think we all need a little plan especially now you can do fast passes online. Plan the mornings and see how the afternoons/evenings go

As I'm saying onsite in August I've needed to plan my adrs. Because I will have my adrs all sorted I will know where I am on most of the days (always do a park in morning then back to resort before going out again later) so I will know where I'll be at 60 days.
I also have a day booked for discovery cove. Apart from all this I will go with the flow! I actually found it quite refreshing last time that the decisions had been made already so could really enjoy being in the moment while we were there.

I think having a plan is very helpful in making the most of your time but even more important is the ability to deviate from that plan if the mood takes you. We have decided rides are not going to be the most important thing for us this year. But we plan fast passes and if we make them we make them if we don't then I'm sure we will be doing something equally as fun!
