Malaga Area - what to do and see

I am going to stay in a villa at a place 20 mins to the east of Malaga. Anyone have any suggestions on a few things to see?

Porta Buenas is lovely just down the road and so is Marbella. Try and go on a boat to see the Dolphins you get too touch wild dolphins and they swim alongside you. The day before we went the guy who runs the trips said they say a 20ft whale!

If you have a car:
Mijas village, a bit touristy (bus trips) but great views.
Nerja, a much more laid back sophisticated resort than others along this stretch of coast
2 miles further east (at Moro) the caves of Nerja, ancient caverns only discovered in the 60's
2 miles north of Nerja is Frigliana, voted the most pictuaresque village in Spain.
Benalmadena port - see how the other half live.
Benalmadena costa - Wild nights around the 24 hour square.
You are only 2 hours from Granada (North) for The Alhambra and 2 hours from Ronda (Northwest) for the Gorge
Gibralter is one hour away
Torremolinos and Fuengirola package resorts that are much improved in recent years (great restaurant in Fuengirola -Moochers Jazz Cafe-)
Enjoy

If you have a hire car and want to go into Gibraltar check your insurance as you may not be covered. You will have to leave it in Spain and walk over the border which may be quicker anyway!

The zoo at Fuengirola is small but very good. see here

Selwo, near Estepona, is like a wild Spanish version of AK. You need to be fit to do it though! see here or here in Spanish but gives you the flavour

Selwo Marina in Benalmedena is the Spanish version of Seaworld. see here again in Spanish

Tivoli is great if you have little ones. see here It is only open in the evenings - so you need to adopt the siesta mentality.

As James said Puerto Banus, south of Marbella is good for people watching plus there is a large El Cortes Ingles (sp?) store which is very good.

There is a very good shopping Mall called Las Canadas north of Marbella. It has a very good hypermarket there too.

We always go to Mijas too - a white village - with good restaurants, donkey rides and horse drawn carriages. One of our favourite restaurants is El Mirlo Blanco, a Basque restaurant which is at the bottom of the steep road up from the town square to the Bull Ring (park up near the bull ring) at the top of the town. They do a great flambed Grand Marnier baked alaska dessert for min. 2 persons. Hmmmmm... I am getting hungry thinking of it!

Have a great time.
