Packing when the kids don't know...

Question for the parents that have surprised the kids with a trip...

How do you manage to get the packing done without them knowing. I need to start thinking about getting myself organised and I don't know where to start!

What day of the week do you go and will the children be in school the previous day?

Failing that what about packing cubes (LOL) so as to squirrel away a bit at a time. Then the night before you go, the cubes could be put into cases.

pack the night before you go, and take whatever you need out of their bedroom/wardrobe while they are at school, or send them to the shops with someone to get something, then you can pack while the are asleep

I've done this a few times, I get the cases out and then just pack a bit every day so it doesn't look too suspect, and if they ask why the cases are out then I tell them that someone is borrowing them for a few weeks as they're going on holiday. They don't take much notice about what goes in the cases or of clothes are missing from their rooms!

I write a list of absolutely everything we are taking with us, then once DD is asleep the night before we go, my DH gets the cases out the loft and it’s a case of getting each thing on the list and popping in the case, ticking it off as I go.
I write the list well in advance and just keep adding to it as I remember/buy things. That way I feel quite organised and almost like I’m virtually packed, throwing it all in doesn’t long at all. (Must admit I’m lucky in that once DD is asleep I could literally hoover round her bed so she never wakes when I’m going through her drawers and wardrobes in her room!)

We only did it for 4 nights in DLP not a fortnight in Florida but I sent mine for a sleepover at grandparents for one night the week before, packed it all then hid the cases.

Thank you... my boys are 12 and 7 so the eldest would definitely catch on.

I like the packing cube idea will get started on these next week
