Hello James
I have just booked Las Vegas - going 30th September for 6 nights, myself and DH. Having trawled the sites for a cheap deal, I can tell you that Virgin are the only direct carriers from London - BMi go direct from Manchester, (I seem to remember). All other carriers go indirectly. To give you an indication of cost, we have paid £1,400 (for both of us) - direct Virgin flgihts, 6 night stay at the Imperial Palace, (mid strip) with Travelocity. My sister, who is getting married there, paid £1,300 for direct Virgin flights for 4 nights staying at the Luxor - she booked through Ebookers. But alas, when I tried to book the same package 2 days later, they had no availability. The Travelocity flight only price was coming in at nearly the same with the hotel thrown in. Sorry to waffle, now to the point - I tried the following for flights only and these agents did indirect bookings: dreamusa/ bon-voyage/ bestattravel/General/default.htm Indirect flights were being quoted at the £470+ pp (without tax). I hope this is of help and hope you get a bargain! regs Lou |

Hi,
I'm also planning a vegas trip for October (first time there). I really want to go premium and non stop so it looks like BMI for me (Manchester flights). Anyone have any experience of BMI premium? I can't see a way to specify premium economy on their website so may have to use an agent... Have you any idea where you are going to stay James? Keep us posted with your plans. |

Thinking maybe Excaliber (sp?) seems to be resonable priced and in the center of the strip. Do you have any idea's?

You know how it is - I had loads of ideas - Mandalay Bay was my favourite as it has a House of Blues... but then I started pricing things up and with premium economy flights, a 'big name' hotel and a couple of cirque shows and a grand canyon flight... this is going to be mighty expensive. (I nver thought anything would make Florida look cheap!)
I am trying to figure out a way to do it without breaking the bank and I think that it may be the hotel that gets re-thought. The MGM grand seems to come out at reasonable prices. I have registered on all of the hotels loyalty schemes - I have great deals sent through by Luxor, Venetian and Mandalay - but they are all fairly short notice (e.g they are offering cheap rooms in July at the moment). I can't decide whether to book a package or do it all myself and wait to see if I can get a cheap room. How long are you going for? We are planning a week. Are you going anywhere else or just Vegas? |

We stayed in the Luxor and the Tropicana when we went back in 1997. Weekends (Fri and Sat nights) are the most expensive times to stay. When we get back there - and we would really like to - we would like to stay at The Mandalay, but if we had a good deal from the Luxor we would readily go back there - it was fantastic.

We nearly booked a package through Expedia but just before booking we were e-mailed a special offer by Mandalay Bay so we did it ourselves instead separately.
We stayed at THE Hotel, the separate all-suite building alongside Mandalay Bay - fantastic ! Usually around $300 to $450 - we paid $169 plus tax. Anyway - for anybody trying to keep the hotel cost minimal - the Las Vegas Monorail is very useful - it runs from 10am to 2am - costs $3. It allows you to stay at say, the Las Vegas Hilton - one block off The Strip, paying around $40 to $70 with easy transport to the action. Here is a route detailing the hotels along the monorail - try to find a good deal at one of them. lvmonorail/about_04_fastfacts.html# If you venture a little further away from The Strip, not along the monorail, you can stay at very good places such as Terribles or Silverton for around $30 to $50. These are not dingy dumps, they are spotless casino resorts - the beds at Silverton are the same as those at Bellagio ! |
