Alamo intermediate car
Looking for info with anyone who has had an intermediate 4 door car from Alamo. our car is meant to be a Hyundai Elantra or similar. 2 adults and 2 kids. basically is it a decent car to drive around in Florida for 2 weeks. taking 2 adult cases and 2 kids cases.

Hi. Nothing wrong with it at all. Bear in mind most American cars have boots not hatches so the luggage can be like playing Tetris getting it to fit in nicely.
Should work ok though. If the Int SUV is the same price that's always worth considering as the luggage will fit better in one of them as you aren't constricted by a boot lid. With regards to the cabin 4 will fit in well. Of course each size you step up gives more comfort but lets be honest sometimes it's not needed if cost is the main factor.

We have had an intermediate car with 4 adults before, drove all the way to the Keys in it, plenty of room (we don't shop in Florida, so don't take extra large or empty cases though). You can select your car from a long line, so get the chance to get a good look at various boots.

I’ve had intermediate with Alamo before. Good thing about Alamo is you can choose your car. There were certainly some in the row we’d have struggled with the boot space but lots of others which had plenty of space for us and we had a pushchair too.

When you say "drive around in Florida for 2 weeks" are you meaning a road trip with multiple hotels and cases in the car regularly? Or do you mean visiting various parts of Florida from a fixed base so your cases are only in the car for two airport runs. There's only two of us nowadays and we always hire full size (car) which is a step or two up from an intermediate and as others have said some trunks may not be too generous and for the airport runs you may need to put a case upright on the back seat between the two kids. Also don't forget cabin baggage which should go in the trunk gaps or in the rear seat foot wells. So if you aren't doing a road trip, the two airport trips in an intermediate should be manageable. However as Tom suggests you might want to look at an SUV where you have less limits on the stacking height. Have you booked the car separately or as part of a fly-drive or holiday. Might be worth exploring upgrade costs to have the option. Mick

We booked an intermediate car last year and had the pick of a long line of cars from things similarly sized to a focus up to 7 seater mini vans. Obviously that isn't guaranteed but I would say you would be fine. Its only two trips with the luggage you have to worry about, to and from the airport. You will manage ok.

Hi Mick, What i really mean is from Sanford airport to our villa. We then would only be driving from villa to park and park to restaurant and other attractions and shops. we booked through Tui and went for the Gold insurance cover. I might still look into going for a larger car. thank you for your comment

I have had a Hyundai Elantra (from Budget). It was more than adequate for our family of 2 plus 2 teenagers. I really surprised myself by enjoying it. Of course it depends on your suitcases, but we travel pretty light.
