Does anyone else find rooms old fashioned?

I am a professional interior designer specialising in hotels, on average 200 bedroom hotels will wait at least 7 years between updates. If you scale that number up to Disney standards + a really high occupancy rate Then it’s to be expected the rooms are a bit battered. I find American hotels in general to have dated design, pleated curtain pelmet, dark furniture, heavily patterned garish bed throws and the dreaded hotel shower curtain. Like others have said they are always booked up so no real incentive to renovate. I think you just need to be aware of what your booking. For example it’s only in the past couple of years that guests now expect USB ports etc, 5-7 years ago this was not a thing, Disney will catch up but the scale of that undertaking should not be underestimated.

Can’t disagree with OP. I’ve always said the standard of rooms at Disney are not comparable with hotels in same price range off site.

I stayed in a refurb room POR May and was very underwhelmed with the “ new” room. The reality is you are paying a premium to stay onsite. Without the dining plan offers I would chose to stay elsewhere

There is a different American taste I think too. Sometimes the furnishings are brand new and good quality, but still seem a bit staid and fussy/dark in comparison to the more sleek and contemporary / look of a lot of European hotels.

Absolutely. We also found this to be the case when house hunting in the midwest; even newly built/decorated houses seemed dated and tired.

The shower curtain is what put me off a lot of the resorts. Went with CSR because I like the look of the fresh modern room and they have shower doors

Even the deluxes are nothing earth shattering, nice but that's it . I thought AKL weren't anywhere near anyone's version of deluxe. . Beach Club and Boardwalk were better but you are paying for location not amazing rooms.

I agree the rooms are often nothing special but it does amuse me when people complain about the 2 double beds situation. No one expects 4 adults to share a room just because there is room to do so. Of course an adult daughter and her fiance need a seperate bedroom. There are loads of villas and suite style hotels or simply book two rooms. When I was a child and travelled to the UK we had to have two rooms with only 2 adults and 2 children because none of the rooms could sleep 4! Even now the family rooms in Premier Inns don't suit 4 adults. Most American hotel rooms are simply more flexible to suit different groups. Hotels also don't expect adults to sleep in single size beds so have 2 doubles to suit 2 friends traveling together.

The dark furniture is simply different tastes. The kitchen showrooms here are full of expensive dark kitchens. Most Americans would find the British high gloss white ones just as strange.

Thise curtains are just awful. That's why the movies reburbished rooms with sliding door are winning at the minute for me.

Shower curtains don’t seem to be an issue though in the US and have watched lots of report on rooms on YouTube and none make mention of it.
Would agree with DonnaD, don’t think I would like to have been sharing a room at any stage of my relationship with DH with my parents or his.

I wonder what the new Star Wars Hotel will be like if we put to one side the theming which will probably be outstanding.

Will it have shower curtains?

As an aside I see it's slated to open next year as it's only a 2 storey building.
