I am told mine is RP (but I think with a sprinkling of Scottish, American and campness thrown in for good measure) - depends on the day and if I have had a martini or 3 what is the stronger dominant of the 3 sprinkling ingredients

My MIL (who was originally from the far north of Scotland) would pick up accents and start talking like the person she was speaking to at the drop of a hat. When she came back from an extended holiday in Australia it took ages for her to lose the Australian accent.

I am definitely a mimic - not on purpose. When my sister came out to meet me in US she asked why I was trying to speak American and when I go to Yorkshire I definitely mimic the accent - but like a coiled spring I twang back to RP which is my natural one (it’s the way I talk when I dream and talk out loud so I guess as natural as it can be)

Megaflyer, what’s RP stand for? I’m guessing it’s not Real Posh or is it? 😂😂😂

I am assuming that megaflyer thought you were joking and it was a rhetorical question .

I had to google it to find out what it was . Didn’t have a clue .

Even going to a grammar school I have never heard that expression before . 50 years living up North
