We stayed off site last year but hired car as hotel shuttles arent that reliable. We would get to park for opening and stay as long as we could. For universal we stayed one night royal pacific and that gives you 2 days fast passes, we manager to do all universal in those days.
Try to take snacks to park and eat out the parks as they can be expensive.

The shuttles may run at inconvenient times and not to the places you want to go to exactly.

You may find using Uber for some or all of the time saves you a lot of time which in turn can save you a lot of time in the parks.

When you say you’re staying on International Drive... it’s over ten miles long, so where exactly?

Great point to use Uber- get that on your phone before you go! Will also be useful if you want to go to a restaurant not in walking distance.
We always stay at least one night in a deluxe universal hotel. While very expensive (upwards of £300) each night will give you two days of unlimited front of line passes - it means you can get more done and stops you queuing for hours!

Wouldn't it be better to get advice before booking somewhere you've never been before regarding hotel, tickets etc

Go to the Dibb Menu on the right side of this page and start reading. As has been mentioned, you need an esta not a visa. Check the Esta information in the yellow banner at the top of this page. Be very careful when you answer the questions, if you put in the wrong answer you cannot change it and it will mean a visit to the embassy which could take 6 months +. Go to the ticket section of the dibb and do some research on ticket prices in the yellow banner at the top of the page, sometimes they throw in a freebie. If you use a TA, you will be charged a commission. Get yourself an Uber App on your mobile before you leave UK. If you are stood outside Disney with another 20 minutes to wait for your shuttle and its lashing down with rain you won't want to hang about.

Ahh if it was up to me everything would have been planned and researched beforehand! My partner actually booked the trip as a surprise Christmas present! I thought this forum would be the best place to get some expert advice

That’s a lovely gift! You’ll have fun planning - and I don’t think you can ever plan too much!

We are staying in Avanti Palms. Yes you’re definitely right! From what others have said too Uber seems like the way forward depending on timings etc!
