That’s exactly what has happened, wanting an extra deposit and the prices doubled, in fact the first email I got they also wanted a further deposit and they wanted to charge £175 pp to change it.

I am hearing so many horror stories about how they have treated people, I totally get losing our deposit, but an extra £100 pp on top is outrageous.

I've just had a look through their T&C's and some of them are quite shocking really. One of them is if they have to refund you, they will deduct £90 per person. So I assume, if they cancel the holiday, you have to pay them for the privilege

As boring as it seems, these are the things which should be read before handing any money over, but I presume most of us are guilty at sometime of not doing it.

I haven’t seen this £100 fee before, we booked the holiday 18 months ago and I really don’t recall seeing any reference to it, in all emails it mentions loss of deposit but not this extra fee.

I saw the £90 fee if they cancel, how is that moral and ethical?! They also told me the agent only makes £25 per booking, so where they get £100 pp is a complete mystery.

Would this be legal as part of a package holiday?

I assume you made the booking over the phone? They should have emailed/posted the T&C's with your booking confirmation. Those are the ones which would apply at the point of sale. If they've changed them since, they can't apply new T&C's to an existing booking.

If she pays on a credit card then there isn't any danger of getting her money back. Section 75.

Isn't it CT who do not accept CC for payments?

I booked through Charter in November and was able to pay the deposit on credit card. They never even mentioned bank transfer for the deposit (I would not have booked otherwise).

There was a link in their booking information email to the booking terms and conditions which do include a £100pp additional cancellation charge in addition to loss of deposit. I had to reply to the email agreeing to the terms. I chose to accept as their quote was £500 cheaper than direct.

We’re due to travel end of May. I will pay in full and if we can’t go either reschedule or take a refund then.

If you don’t want to pay the balance I think the only option is to pay the cancellation charge unfortunately.
