BA Flight changes

I am looking to change our May flights to Christmas time, our flights are booked with BA.

I searched online and found the dates and price we are happy with. I called BA to change but the lady said that I had a special price on our upgrades and that the price will be £2k more. I upgraded after booking the original flights. I was expecting this and said I had found a price on the BA website for a lower class and would be happy to downgrade.

But she has to talk to the team about the price as the price online was a “new booking” price. Was I being silly hoping that the new booking price would be similar to what I would pay for changing dates? Is there anyway I can search for prices as it is a change rather then new booking.

I changed originally from August 2020 to May 2021 and there was no mention of new booking prices and change booking prices being different to those on their website, so this time it’s confused me.

Can you just cancel, get a voucher, and re-book?

Stupidly I didn’t even think to ask this. She really confused me and I was a bit lost on it all.
She is waiting to hear back from the pricing team and I should call Thursday AM or she will email if she has news beforehand.

I had to cancel, get a voucher and rebook when i changed my flights. I said on the phone can you just amend and she said there would be fees to amend, but I could cancel, wait ten mins for the voucher codes and then ring back and re-book. I was a bit panicked that by the time i got through on the phone again to BA the flight would be booked up or the price would change but the lady on the phone was reassuring so i did it and all was fine.
