I also love a prawn cocktail. Often add slivers of smoked salmon, which we all really love. A friend once did it with addition of smoked mackerel, which I was skeptical about, but it was delicious.

My dh asked me where were the prawns for prawn cocktail yesterday before dinner, I then asked him when did we buy prawns? I actually had some in the freezer but couldn’t defrost them in time!

here's what i did on xmas day...
lettuce, baby tomato, spring onion and cucumber, with some sauteed blackened cajun spiced giant prawns, thin slices of smoked salmon, and one full prawn each. the (optional - served in a jar for people to add their own) sauce was mayo/ketchup/habanero sauce (just a dash for a nice kick) and chopped up pickled cornichons  (the bread was buttered btw, it was 2 slices with the buttered bit facing inward) Edited at 11:04 AM. |

My version of prawn cocktail is melon chunks placed around the edge of a side plate then a small pile of smoked salmon in the middle with a pile of prawns on top of the salmon. All topped of with Seafoodsauce (semi-whipped double cream, brandy, mayonnaise, Worcester sauce, tomato ketchup and lemon juice!). Deeeeelish!
If we did not have this as a starter for our Christmas Dinner there would be uproar 😮
