Plans for Manchester T2 to reopen?

The impact of MAN not operating at anywhere near capacity has had a massive knock on to councils around Manchester who as 'shareholders' benefit from the profit the airport group makes.

Is T2X part of Terminal 2 or a separate terminal then? I assumed T2 was being updated and became the new T2, but is it an extension instead?

T2X is the huge extension to T2 (hence it's nickname of T2X). The original masterplan was (and I guess still is, albeit delayed) at a very high-level is...

1. Build new Pier A & link to "old" T2. DONE.
2. At the same time as 1 (above), build T2X & new T2 West multi-storey carpark. DONE.

Now for the remaining bits...

3. Trial & open T2X - at the same time close off the "old" T2.
4. Refurbish the old part of T2 / build at least one more pier.
5. Reopen the refurbished old part of T2, fully linked up to T2X - so you've not got a very large T2.
6. Move all T1 traffic over to the much enlarged T2.
7. Demolish T1 and link T2 to T3 airside.

Item 3 above should happen sometime this year. Clearly items 4-7 will be delivered over a number of years & depend on how the demand for air travel picks up post-pandemic.
