The screen goes black like this for a second or two. Sound still works. Happens on both Apple TV and PlayStation. Have changed everything. Gone though all the settings. Hubby is an engineer so knows how to set TVs up etc The service centre did a soak test but it said no fault found. If we connect everything direct to tv not issues. |

Have you a friend or family member whose TV you could try the soundbar with? If it works then you'll know it's ok.

Well then connect it direct to the tv with good hdmi leads and use a optical lead from the tv to the soundbar.
Also if everything works fine without the soundbar and when you connect the soundbar it goes faulty that says to me the tv is fine the fault is the soundbar. Edited at 08:52 PM. |

It’s a Sony ht st 5000
They don’t recommend doing it this way as optical connection doesnt support Dolby atmos etc. We also do not have an optical port on the tv. This soundbar was bought so we could use the Dolby atmos 7.1 something or other. Hubby is very very up on technology and this was the best one recommended for what we wanted to achieve |

It’s a new tv so it will have a optical port, I never connect via hdmi because there are always problems, but I’ve only been installing aerial and setting up TVs for over 33 years.

Isn't it documented that doing this with optical can lead to no picture but just sound.
You ideally need a TV which supports HDMI ARC to achieve what you are trying to do. If this is the case, then is there a fault with the device, or is it behaving as expected in that configuration? The manufacturer can't be held responsible for misuse of the product to try to get it to do something it is not designed to do. If it is a documented configuration then that is fine and they should be replacing it. |

Optical only supports up to Dolby digital 5.1 and does not support Dolby atmos.
We bought this sound bar specifically for Dolby atmos cos we didn’t want speaks it surrounded sound effect. It’s a hisense h65u7a and does not have an optical port. We do not use Aerial. Onlu Apple TV and PlayStation. |

We set it up to the manual.
This is why we bought this expensive one rather than a cheap one as it was the soundbar that did (or is supposed to do) exactly what we wanted it to. Edited at 09:21 PM. |
