iPhone has died :-(

I dropped my iPhone into a sink full of water last night, fished it out straightaway and into a bowl of rice overnight but the screen has lines all across it now

I have it insured through my bank but the excess is £100 where you can buy refurbished versions of the same phone for around the same price (iPhone 6S Rose Gold 16GB).

It also has sort of a dodgy battery, so I am wondering whether to just cut my losses and buy a new phone. Music Magpie will give me £18 for a faulty one- woo!

I am not sure whether to just buy a replacement of the same model or look at getting a newer model. Any recommendations for whether it's worth paying the extra for the 7 or 8 (or whatever model they are on now!)? I apologise to non iPhone lovers out there but I have had iPhone's for 10 years now and so I am not entertaining anything else (much to the frustration of my other half!) - I did try and ended up going back to an iPhone.

I would say it’s worth getting a least a 7 as the camera quality is much better than a 6.
And if you go for a 7 plus then you get portrait mode which I really like.

You can use Portrait mode on iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone 11 Pro Max, iPhone XR, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone X, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone 7 Plus.

I’d get a newer one but only because I’m sure I read somewhere that apple were stopping the updates for the older phones. I might be wrong though.

All beyond me sorry. I did however spot an awesome deal with Sky for the 11. Never seen such a cheap deal for a contract phone.

As an aside my Wife likes her XR albeit for me it’s a bit big as I like a phone that fits nicely in my pocket.

I got a great deal on the iPhone 11 with Sky plus any unused data gets rolled over each month.

Thanks all. I am on SIM only contract with o2 at the moment which runs for another 8 months so I can't get a contract elsewhere, but I've just had a look and apparently I am eligible for an upgrade in 11 days

Will have a look at the options available on o2 and if there's something decent I suppose I can wait the 11 days to upgrade, not sure what I will do in the meantime without a phone though

I don't want a much bigger phone, I like it to fit in my pocket too! So not keen on the 'plus' models.

Also, what is portrait mode?

I found O2 a complete ripoff with upgrades and new contracts. I actually ended up cancelling my O2 contract early (with the penalty for doing so) and taking a 3 SIM only contract instead and it still worked out better value than keeping the O2 contract running.

Portrait mode gives a nice blurry background on your photos.

I’ve had friends who advised that it can take up to a week of keeping their phone in rice after dropping it in water to get it ‘working’ again.
