Chichén Itza

Has anyone done a trip to Chichén Itzá
TUI price is around £115 per person
Online there are local tour operators charging half that amount
Has anyone done it and used a local firm

We've done it but went on an organised tour with TUI
It's a long boring drive from Riviera Maya around 3 hours I think it took.
It's better coming back as you make a couple of stops which does break up the journey.

We did it as a trip with Virgin, but we definitely did not spend that much to go. I found it interesting, but very commercialised. Lots of traders trying to sell stuff and lots and lots of people. I preferred Coba, much more spread out, lots of trees giving you a feeling of privacy

Someone at work said exactly the same thing. They did Coba and much preferred it, so I think that’s what we will do too

The trip we did combined Coba with a visit to a Mayan village, we got to canoe, zip wire, zip line into a cenote (DH and I chickened out of this one, but DS and DD did it and loved it. Plus a walk through the jungle (saw a tarantula) and learnt about the village and their way of life, amazing

I mentally sat out as soon as you mentioned canoeing lol! Sounds fantastic, DS who will be 12 loves all that sort of thing, so will be over the moon Thanks.

Leaning towards Coba myself
There is a excursion that does both Chichén Itzá and Coba

First time we went to CI we thought it was amazing, we climbed the pyramid, had a guided tour with lots of interesting information, the 2nd time a few years later (went with friends) it was not so good, not allowed to climb ( fair enough) but there were people selling souvenirs and general hassel.
Not been to Coba so may try that,as going next week. Also went ti Tulum and Xel ha really enjoyed both.
