Need advice from the fountain of all knowledge . Aka the dibb

A very odd thing has happened to me today

I was in an all day meeting at work. During the morning break, I checked my phone and found two missed calls and a voice mail. When I checked the voicemail, it was from my car insurance saying that they had had an allegation that my car was involved in an accident yesterday and could I ring them to discuss. I also received an email from them. Policy number and insurance company are correct and when you ring the number on the email it is the genuine Axa call centre with all the recorded messages.

I was not in any accidents yesterday. (Unless u mean the temporary brain fart where i couldn't remember the PIN number for my bank card). I tried phoning them but twice was on hold for 1/2 an hour each time so gave up. It then hit 5pm and I then got a recorded message saying we are closed even though both the email and their website says they r open till 8, Not sure what to think. I have now sent an email asking where and when this alleged accident occurred and saying I had tried to call but couldn’t get through. Will see what happens tomorrow

OP. Probably something of nothing. Hope you get it sorted.

May I suggest you remove the image on your post. Far too much info on there that can identify you.

Check the number you call is actually the correct number. Scammers can give you a false number and are very clever! Just be on your guard for anyone asking you for payment ! It may well be a mix up.

I would only use a number you have on your policy documents or on their actual company website rather than one received like that just to be sure.

I used the number on their website and got through to a guy who said yes he could see that their had been an allegation etc and he would transfer me to the correct team. I was then put on hold. Waited and waited and eventually gave up.

That is very frustrating especially as you have no idea what is going on. Hope you have better luck tomorrow.

I hope you manage to get it sorted. Might I suggest whilst all still fresh in your mind you write down where you / your car was and keep receipts / parking tickets etc just in case.

It may all come out in the wash next week and the I'd be stuffed remembering what I did. Do you have Waze or a camera that kept a contemporaneous record of your whereabouts?

If in work, ask for clock in records etc. Pain in the bum though and it is bound to be a transcription error on the number plate or something in the end.

I am not sure but always though cash for crash claims they did usually hit you. 🤔

It's not a premium callback number is it? Half an hour is a long time to be on hold in my view.

I’m sure it’s just a misread on a number plate, but as above, make sure you call a genuine number off the website just in case. If they had a record of it earlier though you probably need to try call again tomorrow.
Different areas of these places do have different hours to the main line, the investigation line is probably a 9-5 team.

It is probably a misread number plate. My insurance once rang to say that a witness to an accident had given them my number plate. I told them that I had not been in a accident and asked for details. They gave me the time / date / location. I had never been to this town and at that time, I had had a doctor's appointment, so my car was parked in the doctor's carpark. They just said that witnesses are always getting number plates wrong. I never heard anything else about it.
Hope you get it sorted.
