AVIOS points
My bank has this “deal” re bonus points I accrue on current account for certain direct debits. I can’t work out if it’s a good price per Avios point and would be grateful if anyone could tell me what the going-rate is.
Thanks as always Linda x Edited at 11:11 AM. |

It's a reasonable cost per Avios point, cheaper than buying them from BA. It depends what the opportunity cost is as well though. What else would or could you use those rewards for?

Head for Points website is the 'go to' site for working out this sort of thing, I find it far too complicated to work out whether 1.0p or 1.25p is good value myself! Agreed though, yours looks an ok sort of exchange, but as the site will explain it depends on what you wish to use the points for.
Google 'what is an avios point worth' - should give you a link to an article posted 10 Jan 2020. |

I don't think they're worth buying. I have never found great deals with avios points, especially for flights. We use around 10,000 -12,000 points for a one night stay at a gatwick hotel that would cost around £80.

What do they mean by “£10 Rewards = 1,170 Avios”. I don’t understand it, what is a £10 Reward?

So you earn a £10 value reward you can use with various suppliers from “points” accrued from actioning DDs ? Avios is one of those suppliers presumably.
For me it would depend what else you could exchange the reward for. I collect avios through BA rewards rather than use Quidco TopCashback Etc and they mount up very quickly but it really depends what you’d use them for. For me avios have value for short European hops or for upgrading a class on long haul. Using them to buy economy long haul tickets is probably the worst way to try to get value from them. |

With certain bank accounts you earn rewards for doing certain types of transactions, think of it as cashback, which you can either take as cash ie £10 or take the points which would be 1,170 worth.

Very true and not recommended by any experts unless you have 100,000s of them to burn through.
