We've stayed at 7 hotels in the UK over the summer months varying from a Premier Inn to spa resorts - and none have offered housekeeping, although we've been able to get anything we needed on request, so it's not just the YC or Disney.
I do agree that there should be a slight reduction on room rates, which we didn't get at any hotel.

We have stayed at a number of Premier Inns this year and they have all included cleaning. The main difference is that YC is £500 a night not £29!

Our hotel in Jamaica had normal room service. We have only stayed one night in UK places so obviously they have been cleaned.

We've recently stayed at 2 PI in London and 1 in Glasgow each for 2 nights and no housekeeping/cleaning was offered. (and they were all a lot more than £29 - but not Y&BC prices)

Our hotel in Tenerife had daily room service. You had to leave the room and they kept the room door plus balcony doors open whilst servicing the room. It was lovely! Fresh sheets, towels, toiletries every day 😍

If a reduced service is offered, then the rate should be reduced accordingly. That’s only fair - whether you don’t mind doing it yourself irrelevant to me.

DH has been away on business a couple of times recently, both times in a premier inn. Neither of his rooms were cleaned during his stay. Both times he was given information to say that because of covid routine housekeeping would not take place but could be offered on request

I must admit - I'm more than capable of doing things myself (requesting towels, making my bed, taking bins out) but when I am on holiday and am paying for the privilege, I don't think it's right to not offer housekeeping. As other posters have said - if you reduce the rate accordingly then that's fine. But I find it a cheek to not lower the rates and offer a lesser service. When you stay at a hotel, you're not just paying for the bedroom - you are paying for the experience and that includes housekeeping.

I know hotels are having a hard time all over the world as in a lot of cases they just can't get the staff in, but they then have to find other strategies of dealing with it so the customer still feels valued and not ripped off. Lower the price, offer a room credit, offer free breakfast, high speed internet etc there are many things that could be offered.
