New Bahamas Cruise Requirements

The Bahamas has introduced new rules for any cruise ships entering Bahamian ports. All passengers over 12 years old must be fully vaccinated. Ships with unvaccinated passengers will not be allowed to dock in any Bahamian port, including the cruise line "private" islands like Castaway Cay, Ocean Cay, Princess Cays etc that are Bahamian Islands.

Hopefully this is just a short term measure to counter the Delta variant and you will be able to go next year.

I emailed them yesterday about this exact thing and asked what my rights would be if I booked but over 12s weren’t allowed because of vaccination but they haven’t replied as yet.

I hate all this being in limbo.

No one will be able to tell you what your rights will be by then. The current policy (and what should well be in place if this becomes a thing) is that you can cancel due to COVID reasons at any time and get a refund for the cruise side if booked direct (if you have a package elsewhere than it would be down to that company). A valid COVID reason is not getting the vaccine in time and it being a requirement.

There is however no news from Disney regarding this at all yet so I would just wait for now. Things are changing quickly and by next March we could be in a very different world when it comes to cruising. Currently Disney is still allowing unvaccinated minors

Thank you. That’s useful to know.

Today's update ( sep3 thru Nov 1)

Disney is now requiring all guests 12 and older to be fully vaccinated on upcoming sailings. Approved vaccines include Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca, and Johnson & Johnson.

Disney also notes the following:

Guests who have received both doses of Moderna, Pfizer, or AstraZeneca are considered fully vaccinated 14 days after the second dose has been administered.
Guests who have received Johnson & Johnson are considered fully vaccinated 14 days after receiving one dose.
Guests with both one dose of Moderna and one dose of Pfizer are considered fully vaccinated 14 days after the second dose.
Guests who have received one single dose of a vector vaccine (e.g. AstraZeneca) and one single dose of an mRNA vaccine (e.g. Pfizer, Moderna) are not considered fully vaccinated.

Guests who do not provide proof of vaccination will not be allowed to board the ship. Those with sailings during the above-mentioned time frame may modify their trips or cancel their sailing without any Disney-imposed cancellation fees.

Not that we’ve done that here yet but surely you may be better off with a mix and match ?

It's because the FDA have not approved the mix of vaccine types and it hasn't really happened in the US. Canada has actively vaccinated based on availability so they so have a fair amount of mixed.

As N52939 says its to do with the FDA not approving mixing of vaccines yet. Its definitely an interesting one and does rule out a lot of Canadian's especially. It also leads to the question what if your booster shot isn't the same as your first two shots does that mean you are still "fully vaccinated" or would that cause added complications? It such a minefield. As shown though requirements are changing all the time so no one really knows what it will look like in a few months.
