Do I need the plasticiser? Does it stop the cement cracking or something else?

Edit: just read it makes it easier to mix so I can add less water, is that right? How much to I add if using 3:1 sand to cement

Will this do? toolstation/everbuil...SABEgL4sPD_BwE
Or this? toolstation/febmix-a...ticiser/p45220

I would like to use it again when we fix some mortar verges, once we attempt this first.

Cheers
CFB is correct about mortar plasticiser but it doesn't make it any stronger just easier to work with

For years FebMix was the go to product. However I can assure you every bricklaying gang when the Foreman wasn't around had a bottle of Fairy Liquid hidden away to blast into the mixer.
Feb (and Fairy) makes the compo easy to spread hence it's always used.

Don't worry about it, not worth spending money on for your job

Please don’t! It weakens it too much. Just stick to a 3 to 1 mix.

When I was on the buildings if the brickies or plasterers got caught with Fairy it was instant dismissal.

We have just laid a patio and we used this for the gaps.

pavestone/installa...ting-compound/

It was fantastic - you just brush into the gaps and it hardens with air.

Dry mix ! Much easier. When well brushed in then mist with a hose. After this then point the joints for smooth finish, much better job. This also saves on having to clan round all the joints after.

For a year, I used to lay patios for a living amongst other things. I have never achieved a decent result with dry mix, I am afraid. It has always ended up weak and crumbly.
