Can I just say... currywurst - love it or hate it (I’m in the love it camp!) it’s a Berlin tradition along with Berlinerweisse - a blond beer mix with green or red liqueur- red is my favourite!

My eldest son has just booked a few nights in Berlin for early August. He was talking about the curry wurst, which I’ve never heard of.

Loved Berlin, my favourite European city!
We did a free walking tour with Sandemanns, I HIGHLY recommend doing this.
Our guide was so good we booked a tour to Sachenhausen Concentration Camp for the next day. Met him at the train station by the Brandenburg Gate and he took us all the way there and gave us pretty much a private tour, there was less than 10 of us in the group.
We went in December so went to lots of the Christmas markets but would love to go back in the summer too.
Oh we did the Reichstag Building tour on our first evening too which was really interesting.
I did a trip report which you might find interesting, also Crispy A and Goldia’s are worth reading too

I absolutely love Berlin.
I lived there for two years in the late 80's and early 90's when I was in the Army, I witnessed the wall falling.
The Berlin welcome card is very useful but make sure you validate it at first use, last time I went I think we were asked for our ticket on four or five occasions by plain clothed inspectors.
A walking tour is a great way to see the City, there are plenty that run on a tip basis.
A trip to The Olympic stadium is a must, one of the few remaining places to have held the Olympics and a World Cup Final. At the back of the Stadium is The Maifeld which is where The British Garrison held the Queens Birthday Parade every year.
Be careful around a lot of the tourist spots as there are people selling tat which they will tell you is genuine Second World War or Cold War. 99.9% is not.
I wouldn't buy anything from them, especially bits of The Berlin Wall, that all went years ago.
The hut at checkpoint Charlie was removed years ago, the one there now is a much smaller replica placed there so tourists can get their photograph taken with German men in American uniforms for 5 euros a pop!
Enjoy it, a fantastic City.
