Depending on your arrival date Washington Park is worth a visit for the International Rose Garden and also the Japanese Garden. I took a guided tour of the Japanese Garden and found the theory behind the landscaping fascinating. I have to say I was a little disappointed in Portland compared with Seattle - it seemed to be a very industrial city with lots of docks and cranes along the river bank. A drive along the Columbia River Gorge is worthwhile, and the Multnohmah Falls are spectacular.

I haven’t been, but Multnomah falls is on my bucket list! 100% this is what I would do if in Portland.

We love Portland and are returning for 3 nights on our next road trip. See trip report in signature for our previous trip!
You'll be there during rose season, so go to the Rose Test Garden and nearby Japanese Garden - both spectacular. The Pittock Mansion nearby is perfect for a view over Portland with Mount Hood in the background.
Likewise a trip in the cablecar up to the hospital for another great view.
We loved Huber's for dinner and plan to go back.
And, as others have said, a trip along the Columbia River Gorge is a must if you have time.
Portland is great just to wander around. Lots of food carts, green space and things going on. Have fun!

Portland is full of great places to eat and awesome beer

The following all have a great selection of places to eat and independent shops etc.
NW 23rd street
Pearl District
Alberta Avenue

DO NOT GO to Voodoo Donuts - Blue Star Donuts are far superior
Salt and Straw has AMAZING ice-cream
Bollywood Theatre - great indian food - the manchurian cauliflower is to die for
Jakes for old school sea-food
Bunk for awesome sandwiches
Byways cafe for breakfast
But seriously Portland has so many great places to eat you will be spoiled for choice

The cable car the hospital is indeed awesome and there is a pod of food trucks near the base
Last time we did a very cheesy but fun "bigfoot" cruse up the river to the falls.
Distillery District
Beer tour (DH went with Beervana)
Powells books
If you are there when the football is on try and catch a Timbers game - really good atmosphere - sit in the Timber Army end and hope they score
If you are there when the ice hockey is on go and watch the Winterhawks
The Portland Art Museum is small but good
Visit the Portlandia Statue
Visit the Court House (you will need photo ID as it is a working court) there is a viewing tower and a little exhibition on the history of Portland
If you have any gamers in your party Ground Kontrol is filled with vintage video games and Guardian Games is the best games store by husband has ever been to.
Mt Tabor - fancy a hike on a volcano

I love Portland but we love beer, gin, books, music, food, quirky stuff, just wandering around all the different neighbourhoods and don't mind a few rough edges.

Great tips! Which Court House are you meaning? I just looked on Google maps and there are 7 of them Downtown!
