We are doing a florida trip in October including the keys and not going anywhere near Orlando. Another road trip we would like to do is the panhandle.

Neil,
I have done Bangkok, KL and HK for a week! I have actually considered a weekend trip to HK just to see DS!

How about Vancouver or Seattle! Washington? Cape Town (never been but would like to!)

I keep ignoring Texas... maybe I shouldn't!
It really is worth the visit, we drove through the Hill country to the museum of the Pacific War in Frederisckburg which was a hidden gem..Fredericksburg is a lovely little town full of wine tasting shops and nice eateries.

I have read that many positive reports on Texas recently that we are now thinking of a 3 week road trip for next year

Vietnam?

We are looking at Hanoi, a flight/trip to Angkor Wat for 2 days, then after a few more days in Hanoi, A week in Ha long bay.

If we don’t do that, then it is either..

1.Fly to Boston (seen all that), drive straight to Salem and then up to see Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire etc before then driving across to Buffalo, Detroit, Chicago.

2. Fly to Larnaca and then taxi North to Gyrna (Kyrenia) and spend 10 days with a hire car to see Northern Cyprus. (lived in the South for 2 years, have returned several times on vacation and have therefore done it to death).

How about start in Toronto and finish in Boston , Vermont is gorgeous .
I could happily do either northern or south Florida and ignore Orlando in the middle.
I had a short stay in Maryland , I want to go back and see more of both Amish country from there and Washington (a hurricane cut my stay short)
Instead of SAN Fran what about Vancouver , fabulous city !
I’m due a trip back to see more of Arizona too. Lots to see .

We drove Boston to Toronto before - Vermont was indeed gorgeous. We got a car ferry over Lake Champlain and it was amazing!

I kind regret starting this thread now - all I've got is more options to choose from!

5 days is a good length of time for a city break to really get under the skin of a place. not quite long enough for a proper tour across country imho.

Have you been to Washington? If not spend 5 days there, if so then fly to Washington and head down to Richmond, Virginia and all the civil war stuff. Fascinating.
