Radical decision thoughts please?

Have made a radical decision not to dye my hair anymore, it is mousey brown naturally, but have highlighted for years. Here are my reasons -
- Cost (£100 every three months)
- Time (3 hours approximately) mask now needed for this
- Health (my hair is very fine, and thinning)

Lastly that my grandmothers and my mum, went a beautiful white blonde, not grey, which is a colour I am paying for currently! Am curious to see what happens if I leave my hair for another year or so.

Thought please?

This is my lockdown hair currently.

I stopped dying mine about 5 years ago. I’ve never regretted it. I hated the whole palava and have had more compliments on the colour since I stopped than I ever had before.

Plus roots aren’t a good look, and I had roots more often than I didn’t.

I would do it Louise and see how it turns out, you can always dye it if you change your mind, I think white blonde sounds lovely. I am still dyeing mine using a box dye, because I’m olive skinned I don’t think grey will suit me! Go for it xx

I've gone from bleaching my hair (firstly at the hairdressers, then doing myself) to just using a box of hair dye, and my hair is in so much better condition. Costs me £4 every 4-5 weeks, 15 minutes to slap it on, then 40 minutes leaving it on when I stick a bag on it and go and do other stuff.

I've always dyed my own hair using box dye and it worked really well. A couple of years ago I went from blonde to red (which I had done properly at the hair dressers) but it was a nightmare and would barely last 2 weeks. Every time it rained it would drip red, so I decided to go back blonde. The only way this could be achieved was by bleach (again, it was done properly), which is how I ended up going from using box dye to bleach.

I've got thyroid disease and also low ferritin and lost quite a lot of hair, and what was left was in horrendous condition, I guess because of the bleach. I also have very thin hair.

The box dye isn't as blonde as the bleach was, and weirdly some of my hair now looks as if it's strawberry blonde with blonde highlights, but I'm very happy with how it looks, and love the fact the condition has come back (it had got to the point where the only brush I could use was a tangle teaser one).

Had my hair cut yesterday and even the hairdresser was saying how much better condition it was in.

Anyway, sorry, I know that wasn't really what you were asking, but just in case you might want to consider a box dye I'm a big fan!

Why not try it and see, even if you hate it, there are a lot of people still walking around with 'lockdown hair' (me included) so if anytime, this is the perfect time to do it 😊

White / blonde sounds lovely, I have very dark hair never dyed it and going grey naturally (I’m 52) I couldn’t maintain dying or highlights certainly not at £100 a go and like previous poster you can always dye it, you’ll have to keep this post going with updates.

Thanks ladies, this is my lovely mum for reference, and this is her natural colour. My hairdresser finds it hilarious that I cannot wait to go ‘grey’

I developed a sensitivity to some hair dyes 6 years ago so stopped dying mine. It is mouse with white highlights now, never went grey, my mum went snowy white, so am hoping I do too.

Doesn't look too bad, does have fantastic condition compared to when it was dyed.

Sometimes I have mouse with lilac or blue highlights if I use a wash in/out colour.

Thanks, I will try, am horrified looking at my straggly and split ends! It has been quite liberating letting go of all the time and money consuming beauty habits. Am not gelling my nails anymore either going forward.

Nice to see Mum has a beaming smile on her face waiting for the Pub to open.
