Renting Dvc points advice
Hello everyone!
We are considering renting DVC points for next year as we need a bigger accommodation and this seems a cheaper option. We will be taking my daughter who will be 3 at that point and we worry if we have to cancel due to restrictions and masks with a young child. I know David’s Dvc rental does no cancellations but someone suggested trying with other owners who may offer cancellations or at least moving dates (as we would be happy moving dates too!). Can anyone recommend where to rent Dvc points direct from owners that may offer this option? I have seen a DVC rent forum but wanted to ask here before posting in the wrong place! |

Renting points from an owner will always be at risk. Hence why you pay more for using David’s. There have been plenty of stories on here of people not get their money back sadly

I was thinking about going down the same route and rent points. But due to the uncertainty with travel at the moment, I am keeping my booking with Disney to stay onsite.
I am hoping by 2023 when we will next go (after December 2021 hopefully) and travel will be more certain then to book DVC for that trip.

I looked at David's and I thought there was no cancellation options but you could take out the insurance they recommend - is that what you did?

Like renting a villa depends entirely on terms and agreement up front.
I just gave some advice on the other thread. I believe many rental companies offer now some flexibility but you’ll pay for the privilege. A trustworthy owner is a great way to rent points. For example, for my renters if they cancel over 30 days from the trip and thus the points don’t go into holding, I’ll happily cancel and shift the trip. I’ll even offer to try and secure hard to get resorts at 7 months out. I’ll also happily put the points up for rental to Americans and refund what I get back if my renters cannot go. I’m a great believer in treating people well and whilst I am not a regular renter of points (just this year so far really due to not being able to go last year) they will come back in future years. In fact I rented some points recently to an ex cast member who has already asked for more.

This is totally misleading.
Davids do not own points, they are purely a middleman - hence why you pay more. The refund situation during the pandemic has been an exceptional event, Davids have been working with renters and owners to try to come to an arrangement where the dates are shifted or the points are rerented and the original renter refunded somehow. Some people through Davids have had no refund, some through private renters have had no refund. Likewise some people have had refunds via Davids and from private renters. As an owner I refunded 2 Dibbers their DVC bookings in full. Insurance 'should' cover this in normal circumstances as they are just accommodation bookings. Of course no insurance is valid at the moment so that path is blocked until normal travel can resume. |

Working in financial services I am well aware of the risks of handing thousands of pounds to a stranger on the internet. People need to be aware that they may get nothing back and there will be little they can do about it.
The safest way is to pay by credit card through a 3rd party. |
