Gulf hotels

Just thinking about adding 3 nights at the coast to next trip (hopefully October)
Anybody got any suggestions for a reasonably priced beach side hotel in Clearwater or St Pete's? Or any tips about driving to the coast in general.

Have a look at bon-voyage They seem to have some pretty good prices for gulf hotels. I have some ideas from brochure browsing - but personal recommendations are always useful. Might see you there - we seem to have similar ideas. I will be at the Courtyard in 16 days! Yippee!

Talking

We stayed at the Howard Johnson at St.Pete Beach in 1997. It's a very nice hotel with it's own small restaurant. There's a pool which is between the hotel and the beech and a beech bar next to the pool.

The trip to St. Pete Beech from Orlando was fairly straight forward, although avoid travelling at rush hour, especially around Tampa and St. Petersburg. A good scenic route to take is via the Skyway Bridge which crosses Tampa Bay - very impressive sight

We stayed here clearwaterbeachecono/ when we went to Clearwater for 2 nights. It was ideal right on the beach, opposite the pirates crazy golf, just a small stroll to the marina where you can go on a dolphin viewing trip.

The rooms were clean with a fridge and a couple of cooking rings. We paid $10 more for a corner room with 2 windows and a balcony overlooking the beach.(the 3rd one up just above the palm tree)
