Where's the Mouse? Day 14 Hard Rock Café and the ultimate variety show.
Day 14 Hard Rock Café and the ultimate variety show.
After a quick breakfast in our unit we went off in the car as we had an appointment at Bluegreen resorts. Bluegreen are a Miami timeshare company and we have a place with them in Florida. They have just opened an office in Vegas and asked us to go along a take a look at what they were building there. In return for doing so they would give us tickets to a show of our choice. We were seen by a man called Flip Bridges who was a Texan but with Scottish ancestors (and very proud of that he was too!). When he learned Bill was a Scot Flip went into Scottish speak and coming from a man with a real Texan drawl it was hilarious believe me! Anyway they had not even begun to build anything so there was nothing other than an artists impression of the place to look at. The resort will be open in late 2007 and we will be able to use our Bluegreen points to stay there if we wish. It’s highly likely we will and aim to be there in September 2008. After about an hour we said goodbye to Flip and I had tickets for ‘V’ – the ultimate variety show, in my mits. We then went to the Aladdin hotel (complete with it’s own shopping mall of course) to book tickets for the show that night. We had been told the performance was on that night as it wasn’t a “dark Friday”. I’d seen this term “dark Friday or dark Saturday etc” on all the show information. I found out that if it said foe example “dark Friday” then it meant there was no performance on Friday. The theatre would remain dark, hence the saying dark Friday. – A bit of trivia I know but I just always have to know what these things mean. We wanted to have a look at the marina area of Lake Mead so we set off for Boulder City and Lake Mead after booking our seats in the theatre. Although the houses look like they've been updated somewhat. After a short drive we arrived at Lake Mead, paid our $5 to enter and use the car park and went to the visitor centre. We had a good look round in there and then set off for the harbour and beach area. We parked up and went to the harbour. We saw some huge carp. There were loads of them, all it seemed either very hungry or very greedy. We didn’t do a lot here just had a walk around and Bill took some photos. We were getting quite hungry and fancied trying the Hard Rock Café in Vegas, so headed back there. On arrival at the Hard Rock Café we were shown to our seats and Bill had a cherry coke and I had a mountain dew whilst we looked at the menu. We ordered potato skins to share as a starter followed by a cheeseburger for Bill and grilled chicken with garlic mashed potatoes for me. Bill was happy with his burger and my meal was delicious, especially the garlic mash. Mine came with about half a plate of broccoli which seemed to be a bit of a theme in Vegas, everywhere seemed to serve mountains of broccoli. Good thing I like it. We finished off by sharing a huge piece of chocolate cake, before going back to the Marriott for a couple of hours before the show started. We loafed about at the rooftop pool for an hour or so before going in to get ready for our night out. We walked to the Aladdin which was just opposite the Marriott and were soon in the theatre. We were in the second front row and had a great view of proceedings. The show started with a compere, and he must have been the campest man in Vegas. It was so funny the way he sent himself and unsuspecting members of the audience up though. The show was very good. It had acrobats, comedians, a mime artist, a juggler and no doubt other acts that have slipped my mind. I hadn’t really been that keen to see a variety show but it was very enjoyable and we laughed a lot. From there we went into the Casino at the Aladdin. I had not played at all during the holiday and sat down at a slot machine for my first go. I put a dollar bill in the slot, placed a 10 cent stake and pressed the button to make the reels spin round. They stopped spinning and a light on the machine was flashing “big win” and all I could hear was the ching ching of the bell. I had won 400 times my stake of 10cents so got $40. Ah if only I’d placed a dollar rather than 10 cents, still it was good to win something. I cashed in the $40 and didn’t play again. Shortly after this we went back to the Marriott watched some TV and went to bed for the night. |
