Well, Dave said I should keep everyone updated so here goes.

We've read our info pack, several times ., and have decided that we need in the region of 200 points. At the prices listed that will be about £10,000. Annual dues for that will be $753.62.
That will give us our two weeks at the Beach Club villas and give us plenty of lee-way to stay elsewhere should we want. It's also enough to get us on a 3 day cruise plus a few nights at a resort, which, like the Beach Club, is something that I thought we couldn't afford.
We're currently in the process of cashing in some investments and what we get for those will dictate how many points we end up with.
I gather we can get the price down a bit, but I'm not sure how, just yet. I also gather we need to get in before June? as the prices are going up. Anyone have any info/comments on this?

Oooh, exciting! .

I think you can get the price down by selling back your points for this year.  In the past I believe this has been $5 per point for the WDW resorts (HH and VB were at $10), so on 200 points you'd get $1,000 back, if my maths is correct!

This is just what I think, so do check it out with your guide .

Have you included the current incentive in your calculations.  I think they are giving $5 a point off or a stay in one of the hotels.

Thanks for the replies guys. Is the current incentive the $5 per point for selling back the years points or is this something in addition to that?
Cheers

I believe the $5 incentive is just money off and you don't have to give back any points.  Or you can choose the hotel nights.  It think the $5 off is a good deal, considering they are going up in price in June.  So on 200 points it would be a $1000 saving.  I pretty sure this is deal !!

Someone correct me if I am wrong.

Have you considered rasale ?

Sounds like a good deal to me. I'll have to have a chat with our guide.

We looked at resale, but problem is I've set my heart on the Beach club.  .

We've just got to wait until the end of March as we'll get interest on some of the money that we want to use if we hang on bit.

Carole, don't know whether this is possible - what about a resale at somewhere other than BCV, of course, and then doing an add-on of say 25 points at BCV, which would, presumably, give you an "in" to BCV.  Would that work?  Even though we are DVC members, I don't know the answer to that question!  I just like to save money, but then who doesn't?

The only thing is if you have your heart set on staying at a particular resort you should buy all your points there.  You only get the 11 month window on the number of points owned.
